Sponsored Training
Access to Skills Development Training

Guidelines For Skills Development Training

What you need to know before applying for sponsored training:

  • An assessment by an employment counselor must be made before a recommendation for training can be considered;
  • If you have employable skills, you may not be eligible for assistance to attend training. You may be asked to show evidence of an active job search;
  • You may be expected to attend a career planning program to help you determine the most appropriate direction for further job search and/or training;
  • Labour market research on the occupation and industry you wish to enter is required to ensure that there are jobs available and that the training you are considering will qualify you to enter the industry;
  • You may be expected to make a contribution towards your training. Your contribution will be negotiated at Service Canada after an application for funding has been submitted. Negotiations are based on each individual's financial situation.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • If you are currently receiving Employment Insurance, you must get approval from Service Canada before starting any part-time or full-time courses;
  • If you have not been assessed for eligibility for training and have already started school, please make an appointment to see an employment counsellor immediately.
